The Making of Vlaze Adapt Kitchens

Creating Vlaze’s stunning ADAPT units involves the highest quality materials, the latest cutting-edge equipment and exceptional craftsmanship. In this blog, we will show you some of the processes involved in making a Vlaze ADAPT outdoor kitchen from our UK-based factory on the Isle of Wight.

Laser cutting the steel

The first step is selecting the highest quality British low-carbon sheet steel. The metal is then laser cut to create the building blocks of the unit’s chassis. The system provides highly accurate and efficient laser cutting with tolerances of just 0.2mm and the capability of cutting material from 0.5mm-25mm in thickness. This is crucial for creating a sleek finished product with immaculate detailing.

Shaping the metal

Panels are formed to the shapes and sizes required to a tolerance of +/-2mm. Flanges are formed by folding to an outside radius of 3mm. The steel conforms to the requirements of BS EN 10209 and is versatile, anti-rusting and heat resistant.

Welding the metal

Our team has 50 years of manufacturing experience and is able to work with a very high degree of precision.

Electric & hand-finished sanding

All welds positioned in visible areas are ground, first, by electric sanders and then by hand to remove surface roughness until a smooth finish is achieved.

Deep clean

After panel fabrication, all metal surface impurities are stripped and cleaned off in a degreaser bath.

Liquid enamel application

After rinsing and neutralising, an enamel ground coat is applied to the metal. The strong, solid steel chassis is coated in a luxurious vitreous enamel finish which gives the iconic look and provides a host of benefits including superior heat-resistance and weather-resistance.

Dry

Panels are then allowed to dry naturally before firing.

Into the furnace

Firing the ground coat at 830 degrees Celsius fuses the enveloping enamel glaze to the metal.

Collate

Underneath the sleek exterior of a finished ADAPT unit is a wide range of high quality component parts that add significant functionality and improved userablity.

Assemble

An ADAPT unit comes with german Blum onyx soft close hinges, premium heavy-duty braked castors supporting up to 800kg and nickel-plated magnetic catches. You can read more about the finer details and specification here.

Vlaze ADAPT in Nori

Vlaze ADAPT units are beautifully made and boast many benefits over other types of outdoor furniture:

  • LONGEVITY – Enamel lasts up to 4 times longer than standard powder-coated panelling.
  • WEATHERPROOF – Enamel is resistant to all the elements be it rain, sun, snow or hail it will not fade or corrode.
  • CHEMICAL RESISTANCE – Enamel is resistant to virtually all alkalis, acids, organic solvents & detergents.
  • HYGIENIC – The smooth, sealed surface of enamel eliminates the absorption of dirt, grease and bacteria.
  • ABRASION RESISTANCE – The hard surface of enamel resists shock abrasion and scratching.
  • HEAT & FIRE RESISTANCE – Resistant to temperature differentials of -40°C to 650°C.
  • LOW MAINTENANCE – Enamel requires very simple and only periodic maintenance and is easy to clean.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL – The elements that are used to produce enamel are fully recyclable.
