The Fire Protection Association recommends that the common radiant-type stove should maintain a 900mm (36 inches) distance from any combustible. Using a heat shield can reduce the space required to 95mm as stated by HETAS. However, when using a Vlaze heatshield with a Charnwood stove you can reduce this space even further to just 75mm. Hearths
Depending on your flooring, you may require a non-constructional hearth. A fireplace hearth is a barrier between your combustible flooring and your fireplace. In the case of a wood-burning stove, they usually extend out in all directions beyond its footprint to protect a sufficient area from the emanating heat generated and any falling ash or embers.
